Microsoft is planning to change its website for the company’s energy information platform to a streamlined, more-personal approach, according to people familiar with the matter.
The company is looking to start the transition with a new energy portal, one person said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the discussions are private.
The changes are being driven by Microsoft’s new energy and renewable energy business, which aims to serve customers with more comprehensive information and to make it easier to understand the energy landscape around the world.
The Energy Information Portal, which was the subject of an audit by PricewaterhouseCoopers in October, is the portal that enables customers to find energy information for their business and for their home and is also a portal for utilities to sell energy information.
The change would allow Microsoft to move toward a more personal approach, the person said.
Microsoft declined to comment.
Microsoft is changing the portal to a more streamlined experience, one of the people said.
That includes a cleaner design, simplified navigation and easier access to more data.
Microsoft was recently reorganized into several smaller companies under the new name Azure Energy.
Microsoft’s previous website, called Azure Energy, was overhauled with the help of Pricewaterfares.com.
That site includes the latest information about the energy industry and helps customers understand what is being done to address the problem.
The site has also included a dashboard with information about how customers are using energy, according the people familiar.
