More than 200,000 people in the US and over 200,00 in the UK have been registered as military personnel using an army information portal.
The portal has been set up by the Department of Defense (DoD) to make it easier for individuals and businesses to get online and register their military identity.
The military identity, which is a unique code that must be entered on all government-issued documents, allows people to access their records, and to get information about the service they are currently serving.
It is also used to get military benefits such as the Paygrade, a military pension, as well as the Selective Service (SSN), a military draft that requires service members to be over the age of 18.
However, the military portal has faced criticism for not being fully compliant with the law and the DoD has now announced it is making the portal fully compliant.
In a statement, DoD said the portal was created in response to a surge of military personnel requests and to help people find information and access services that are not available through the traditional avenues.
“Our portal was developed in response in part to a recent surge of requests for military service information from people seeking assistance with military related matters.
To date, we have received more than 400,000 requests for information through the portal,” the DoE said in a statement.
The DoD added that it has taken steps to ensure that the portal complies with the DoP (Federal Procurement Policy) and other laws.
“We have updated the portal to include additional security features and enhanced verification and monitoring to ensure it remains compliant with all relevant laws and regulations,” it said.
The US Department of Defence and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) both announced a “surge” of service members requesting military benefits and that the DoDs decision to make the portal compliant with federal law was “a welcome move”.
“It is great news that the military has taken action to help our service members and families,” DWP director of public affairs Julie Loh said.
“The portal provides a place for those serving to access government records, access benefits and other benefits, as required by federal law.”
The DoDs statement said that the army will continue to work with businesses and individuals to make sure that all of the information is properly compliant.
“We continue to invest in our workforce to ensure we are creating a seamless experience for our service member, their families and veterans,” the statement said.
